Fuchsia, designed on my own pattern.

Fuchsia is one of my favourite flowers. Inspired by these bell shaped dainty flowers, which hang their heads from their delicate stems.

This doll is a representation of the flower itself. The dress bears truth to its name, with the pink blouse representing the sepals, the purple skirt its petals and the beads the stamens of the flowers.

Wave's little friend Shore the Seahorse
Rising from the Indian Ocean, to soak up the warm sunshine, this mermaid doll was inspired by the beautiful fabrics, trims and fibres I collected during my numerous visits to India. What a kaleidoscope of colour is India with its beautiful variety in every aspect. The mermaid and her seahorse is a replica of this variety.

Camille, I tested this pattern for the designer Mary Tresseler

“Je suis Francaise”. Yes, this young lady is French. She is dressed for an evening out in Paris in a lovely silk and satin garment of red and pink topped with a matching elegant hat. A stunning doll, although she was only meant to be a test of a pattern.

Dream Keeper. He will keep your dreams safe. Pattern by Anne Clemens.

The weaver and maker of dreams. This whimsical, magical 24” doll embodies the magic of the world unknown. His silver hair portrays the wisdom of his thoughts. His face, satisfaction after hard days of work whilst awaiting the slumber of those who will be touched by the train of his thoughts and the wave of his hands to colour their dreams.

Chloe is my rendition of this fully button jointed doll and embellished with ribbons. Pattern is by Barbara Willis.

A tall, elegant and pleasant looking 22 inch doll. Her skirt was inspired by the colourful organza ribbons. An interesting feature of this doll is that it is a fully button fitted and jointed doll, which makes her the most flexible doll of the collection. Her beautiful eyes are made of black bead which are further highlighted by fitted eyelids made from cloth.

Her hairdo
This doll was made in a workshop I took when I went to US in June. Jacque Utez was the teacher and the class was called Molly Muse.

The head is made from a paperclay mould and painted with acrylic skin colour. Rest of the features are done with colour pencils. They are just colour pencils, and not water colour pencils. The body is made from wire armature wrapped with cotton batting. All the cloths and the embellishments are of course from India.

I have named my muse Regalia as she seems rather regal sitting there on the chair.

Twig

This pattern was designed by Julie McCullough. A simple 10 inch fairy with mitt hands and quilted wings. She lives amongst the twigs of the forest. She is a display of the fact that dolls can be made with just about anything, as her hair is of yarn, her skirt and cap of artificial leaves and the rest of herself with scrapes of cloth.

Citronella

This doll was inspired by an Art Nouveau period advert for a Citrus drink. I have tried to capture the refreshing and fresh flavour of a citrus fruit in this doll. The doll was designed by me and although I am quite pleased with the results I still need to improve a lot in the designing side of dolls.

Sapna

Taking Judi Ward’s cloth doll making course was one of the best things I did and she gave me a wonderful kick start into cloth-doll making. This doll is made from her advanced doll pattern Jennifer.

The doll has turned out completely different to the first one Janaki, that I made from the same pattern. She is made from 100% cotton and her face is soft sculpted and painted with colour pencils.

Petal

This is Petal. She was made in Barbara Willis’s ‘Whisper’ workshop. She is a wall doll with cloth over paper clay. Various shades of eye shadows were used to paint her face. Her costume is made from cottons, silks and synthetic fabrics.
