Coco
|
Coco is a happy being and she is most happy when she is amongst all the exotic flowers and gardens in
the tropics. She entangles herself amongst the beautiful flowers and twines and frolics around as
though no sadness or the cares of the world can touch her. But she knows she can face the world and
will come out a winner whenever the time comes."
In India, coconut shell is used for making various craft items. This gave me the idea to
incorporate the coconut shell into my doll. Hence her name came to be Coco. The doll is
fully armatured, softsculpted and her skirt which is made out of coconut shell is decorated
with apoxy sculpt which is a kind of polymer clay.
I made this doll for the Fibre Arts Festival in Alaska. The theme was to create a doll with
Fantasy Garden in mind. Well I did create the doll but couldn't send her as I couldn't make
the deadline.

Butternut
|
I admire the Gourd artists who create beautiful work of art from a simple vegetable. In England
I have come across only the Butternut gourds in shops.
They have a lovely shape which inspired me to make this doll since I am unable to get
the cured ones here. Moral of the story, don't pass up on things you don't like or not used
who knows it might inspire you into something greater... LOL!

Fairy
|
This doll was a table doll for the Enchanted Doll Artists conference that I attended in US this
year. Her name is Latanya. She is my original design. I used Paverpol for her Fairy seat. Her
shoes and wings are combinations of Apoxie sculpt. Since she looks so wistful I thought I should
give her a story so here it is.
This is a story of Latanya, the fairy princess who is always traveling.
One fine enchanted morning during her travels she meets a human and they both become good friends. The
fairy has a tiny amount of fairy dust which she sprinkles over the human which helps this human friend to
fly with her over far away lands and seas. They laugh and they play and sing and listen to the streams singing
their joyful tunes as they while away their enchanted moments together. As night falls she realizes that her
little human friend has to return to its own place where there is no room for her. So silently and sadly they
both bid farewell to each other.
You can see Latanya sometimes roaming in the early morning mists a lonely figure wishing those enchanting moments
would come back. Sometimes she is the lonely figure sitting under the stars and staring into the distance
wistfully. She doesn't have anymore fairy magic left as she used all of it on her friend so she doesn't know
where her friend lives so she could visit.
She doesn't even know her friend's name, and neither does her friend, as during those magical enchanting
moments they thought that those moments would never end. Sometimes she wishes intensely that she would have
her magic back to bring her little human friend back to her and then they could once again laugh and sing and
play joyfully.

Papier
|
Papier is a collage doll. All her clothing and embellishments are with paper and bits of yarn.
Although the doll body is my original pattern,I incorporated lots of techniques into the doll that I learnt
from Christine Shively when I went to US in July. It is a very simple fun doll to make and very easy to
embellish with things that are easily found at home.

Beau
|
This is Beau the toadstool pixie. Although he is a bit tattered and worn out he is still the
beau amongst the toadstool pixies.
This doll was inspired by a Christmas decoration. The pattern in cloth is by me. I
needle sculpted his face. His toadstool hat and shoes are made out of apoxy sculpt clay.
